T H E U N S E E N Choropleth T-Shirt
This variant is currently sold out
On Earth Day 2018, Somerset House raised a flag which reflects the impact of pollution on the environment around Somerset House. Created by T H E U N S E E N, a material craft and innovation studio which started life at Somerset House, the Choropleth flag uses a chromic colour change compound developed by T H E U N S E E N, which reacts in real-time to ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
As the t-shirt is exposed to UV, a pattern emerges in yellows, greens and finally becomes a dark navy blue. Once removed from exposure, the pattern fades through pinks and reds back to clear.
The t-shirt design is centered on the 'Aldwych D', a center point of London and recognizable as the area of Somerset House. With a closer look, in the design you can see a circle on top of Somerset House which represents the collaboration between Somerset House and T H E U N S E E N for the flag commission.
These 100% cotton t-shirts have been printed by hand by members of T H E U N S E E N using the same batch of ink as is printed on the flag, allowing you to take a piece of the flag home from Somerset House, and see how it fluctuates with pollution in the journeys that you go on.
There are four different sizes available, and care instructions will be included in your delivery package.
This product is also available for purchase from the Somerset House Shop, East Wing, Somerset House.
