Artwork title: Exclusive!
Artwork year: 2018
Print description: This print is a reproduction of a magnesium etching from my series ‘a new way to set’. The print explores the practice of ‘page building’; right up until the 1980s printers - then known as ‘compositors’ - would literally assemble metal negatives of newspaper pages by hand. Peripherals, classified ads, and puzzles would be arranged around the space reserved for lead stories until the page was ‘built’ and ready to print. This print tries to capture this additive sequence of construction, with contents to be read backwards, just as they would have been by those assembling the page in metal moveable type.
Each edition is limited to 100, hand-numbered and accompanied by a signed letter of authenticity from the artist. 50% of all proceeds after production go directly to the artist, with the remaining 50% going to Somerset House Trust to support the Young Talent Fund.
