Phoebe Davies, Embrace, 2018
This product is currently sold out.
This edition originates from a core element of Davies’ studio practice, which is developing print works through performance for camera. Embrace was developed in conjunction with Davies’s film work The Sprawl, which will be exhibited as part of Temporary Compositions at Gallery 31 in November 2021.
The film follows a small wrestling club on the outskirts of Oslo, Norway, and their team of young female wrestlers. It documents day-to-day routines at the club, team interactions, and their training, sparring and recovery from injury, moving between moments of tenderness, strength and aggression. The Sprawl was initially commissioned as part of Points of Rupture, Davies’ first institutional solo show at Site Gallery in Sheffield.
